Dear Colleague, the Physics Department of the State University of New York at Buffalo intends to build up a group in Experimental High Energy and/or Experimental Astro-particle Physics over the next few years, with an expected total of three faculty lines. This is a major new initiative of the Department with the intension to build an experimental focus area which complements the very successful experimental condensed matter group. The experimental high energy physics group is also expected to work closely with the existing high energy theory/phenomenology/cosmology group. There are major high energy experimental groups at Rochester, Cornell, Toronto and Cleveland, all within one to three hours driving distance from Buffalo. To initiate the group we seek to fill a faculty position in experimental elementary particle physics, preferably at the Associate or Full Professor level. However, outstanding candidates at the Assistant Professor level with exceptional promise for initiating a new group will also be considered. We especially welcome applications from qualified members of protected groups. The University at Buffalo is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Recruiter. We would be grateful if you would bring this position to the attention of your colleagues. Further information about the position is provided below and in the enclosed file attachment (pdf file). In addition, we would greatly appreciate your advice on physicists whom you feel deserve our serious consideration. Thank you in advance for taking the time to send us your suggestions of candidates (by either letter or email). Your remarks will of course be treated in confidence. with best regards Ulrich Baur
