- The D. E. Shaw group
The D. E. Shaw group, a highly technological investment firm, is
currently looking to hire several gifted individuals with extraordinary
quantitative backgrounds. We were founded by a former computer science
professor from Columbia and, unlike most Wall Street firms, we focus
overwhelmingly on the application of quantitative and computational
techniques to finance. Among other things, this means that a
disproportionate percentage of our staff have PhDs in technical fields,
and the vast majority of our most senior managers come from a
quantitative background. (Just by way of example, a number of our
managing directors, vice presidents, and associates have placed in the
highest echelons of the Putnam, the International Math Olympiad, the
U.S. Chess Championship, and other prestigious competitions.) We are
also looking for bright people to join our research and development
group, which is currently working on computational problems related to
drug development -- in particular, the simulation and design of
biological macromolecules such as proteins.
