We are looking for individuals with significant accomplishments and promise of future achievements who will take a leadership role in enhancing our current activities and in setting future directions. Candidates should be leaders in forefront scientific discovery involving massive data sets with expertise either in quantitative analysis and fundamental data mining techniques and challenges, or with the utilization of grid environments for access to and analysis of data. The position is part of a School of Science wide initiative, in the area of Management, Analysis, Visualization, and Security Aspects of Massive Datasets. We expect this position to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, although more senior candidates may be considered. A copy of the position description appears below. Please bring this to the attention of suitable candidates. Sincerely, Daniela Bortoletto Purdue University PURDUE UNIVERSITY FACULTY POSITION PHYSICS DEPARTMENT The Physics Department, at Purdue University, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure track position in experimental elementary particle physics, astrophysics or astroparticle physics beginning August, 2004. This is part of a School of Science wide initiative, in the area of Management, Analysis, Visualization, and Security Aspects of Massive Datasets. Candidates should be leaders in forefront scientific discovery involving massive data sets with expertise either in quantitative analysis and fundamental data mining techniques and challenges, or with the utilization of grid environments for access to and analysis of data. We expect this faculty member to strengthen our current program which involves leadership roles in CDF, CMS, CLEOc and Veritas and to participate in the future expansion of our program at the interface of particle physics and astrophysics . This initiative is intended to expand and enable new science in those fields that require access to, and analysis of, massive data sets. It is expected to strengthen the core research areas, provide new directions and synergies among scientists working in different disciplines, and intensify the flow of expertise and inquiry across traditional departmental boundaries. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level or beginning associate professor level, although more and senior positions will be considered in exceptional circumstances. The appointment will be in the Physics Department with a possible joint or courtesy appointment in Computer Science or Statistics. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and are expected to produce a record of excellence in research and teaching. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2003, and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should apply by sending a curriculum vitae, a statement of career objectives, and the names of at least three references. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the letters of reference are submitted.
