This file is /cdf/run1/documents/development/cdfsga_bulletin.note The usual CDFNEWS bulletins are available on cdfsga. They are stored in the UNIX newsgroups fnal.cdf.cdf, fnal.cdf.bphys, fnal.cdf.offline, fnal.cdf.plug_upgr There are software controls designed to prevent these newsgroups from being distributed to non-CDF machines. =============== Access from Netscape ======================================== The CDFNEWS newsgroups can easily be accessed using Netscape. One can start up a Netscape browser displaying the CDFNEWS newsgroups in this way: > setup www > Netscape news:fnal.cdf.cdf & Alternatively, if a Netscape browser is already running, click on the "two conversation bubbles" icon, which is the middle icon in the bottom right hand corner. Or, select "Communicator" in the top row, then "Collabra Discussions" from the pop up menu. In some rare circumstances, you may find that you are subscribed to all newsgroups, and that Netscape takes a very long time to list them all. If this happens to you, try quitting Netscape, use the rm command to delete the following file: > rm $HOME/.newsrc and start Netscape again. =============== Access from xrn or trn ====================================== Also, these CDFNEWS newsgroups can be accessed with the standard UNIX newsgroup readers, for example: For an Xterminal display > setup news > xrn & For a plain terminal > setup news > trn When starting with xrn, you may want to do the following: 1) The first time you run xrn, In the upper window, Click on newsgroup fnal.cdf.cdf Click on Add first Click on Quit This will create a file called .newsrc in your $HOME directory with all the possible newsgroups listed, and with all of these groups marked as unsubscribed, except for fnal.cdf.cdf Thereafter, xrn will show you only the fnal.cdf.cdf group. =============== Printing from xrn ============================================ As an option, one can define a print command to xrn by adding a line to the file $HOME/.Xdefaults similar to xrn*printCommand: a2ps -p -1 -ns -nH -nL | flpr In addition, one probably wants to add a line to the file $HOME/.login similar to setenv FLPQUE b0tr149a_hp5si to specify ones favorite printer. =============== Miscellaneous ================================================ Note: Since October 2nd, 1994, bulletins posted on cdfsga will appear on FNALD. The server on FNALD runs once every 10 minutes, and posts the bulletins that it finds.
