Symbols may be defined within UIPACK Definition Files (described in Chapter 7) or dynamically from the keyboard (or Indirect Command File). The syntax for defining a new symbol or modifying an existing symbol is:-

where the keywords ``&&Add", ``&&Change" or ``&&Symbol" identify this as a
request to define a new
symbol or modify an existing symbol. ``Name" is the name of the symbol (which
should not have a leading ``\&" character) and the equivalence text string
must be enclosed in quotes (either single or double) unless it consists of
only a single word with no embedded spaces, tabs or commas etc. Note that
the Symbol Name and Equivalence Text must be specified on the same line
as the Keyword or the request will be ignored and an error message
issued. The keywords may be truncated to ``&&A", ``&&C" or ``&&S".
