WW cross section analysis using the lepton & isolated track data set.
These CDF preliminary results were approved for public view by the Electroweak
Group on 03/18/04.
In this analysis, we measure the WW cross section where the W bosons decay leptonically. One of the W's is decaying into to an electron or a muon and a neutrino, while the other one may decay into an electron, a muon or a tau lepton and a neutrino. The signature for our data set is two leptons, zero or one jets and missing transverse energy. We use tight lepton identification on the first lepton and only require loose lepton id on the second leg to gain acceptance overall and to hadronic tau decays. Our data set consists of 200/pb collected during Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron at a center of mass energy of √s = 1.96 TeV. We measure the WW cross section to be σ = 19.4 ± 5.1 (stat) ± 3.5 (sys) ± 1.2 (lumi) pb. assuming BR(W→lν) = 10.8 %. |
