Observation of orbitally excited (L=1) Bs** mesons
This webpage summarizes the blessed results for the observation of the orbitally
excited (L = 1) Bs** mesons in the fully reconstructed decay
Bs** -> B+ K- or in the decay Bs** -> B+* K- (B+* -> B+ gamma), where we do not measure the gamma.
The B+ mesons are fully reconstructed in two decay channels
B+ -> J/ψ K+ (J/ψ -> μ+ μ- ) and
B+ -> D0 π+ (D0 -> K+ π- ).
The results have been produced for the ICHEP summer conference 2006 and have been blessed in
the B Physcis Meeting on Thursday July 20, 2006.
We measure Q values ( m(B+ K-) - m(B+) - m(K-) ) of:
Q1 = 10.73 +/- 0.21 (stat) +/- 0.14 (syst) MeV/c2
Q2 = 66.96 +/- 0.39 (stat) +/- 0.14 (syst) MeV/c2
The resulting mass measurements of this analysis with the very probable interpretation of the signals as B1 and B2* are:
m(Bs1) = 5829.4 +/- 0.21 (stat) +/- 0.14 (syst) +/- 0.6 (PDG) MeV/c2
m(Bs2*) = 5839.6 +/- 0.39 (stat) +/- 0.14 (syst) +/- 0.5 (PDG) MeV/c2
The uncertainties assigned with PDG are from the uncertainties of the mass of the B+, the K- and in the case of the Bs1 of the the mass of the B+* instead of the mass of the B+.
A more detailed summary of the results can be found in this public note.
