Abstract

We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in the process ZH →l+l-b in up to 5.7 fb-1 of CDF II data. We combine an updated 'mainline' search, utilizing event selection and analysis methods that are largely unchanged from the previous search in 4.1 fb-1, with a new auxiliary loose muon analysis. The loose muon analysis introduces multivariate muon identification and novel techniques for trigger efficiency modeling. Details of the methods employed in the loose muon analysis can be found here, while the details of the mainline search are available here. In combination, we find good agreement between the observed data and the predicted standard model backgrounds and set 95% confidence level upper limits on the Higgs production cross section (σZH) times the branching ratio for H → bb. For a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV/c2, we observe (expect) a 95% confidence level upper limit of 5.99 × SM (5.48 × SM).
