"Comparison of Ambient Energy in Jet Events with MB Data and Herwig MC"
Joey Huston & Valeria Tano
January 21, 2000
Valeria Tano working with Joey Huston, Anwar Bhatti and Eve Kovacs has compared the energy observed in a cone R=0.7 at +/-90 deg to the leading jet (same eta) with the energy observed in minimum bias data and the HERWIG+QFL events.

It is found that the minimum of the two cone Ets is almost independent of the Et of the lead jet whereas the maximum increases with the jet Et. Moreover the minimum value is approximately equal to the energy observed in a R=0.7 cone in minimum bias events. The HERWIG min and max cone show the same trend but the magnitude is lower than what is observed in the data. The difference in Et of the two 90 deg cones (max-min) show a better agreement between data and HERWIG predictions.
