Total Transverse Energy Event Samples

Click here for a definition of total transverse energy (Total-Et). The basic event selection requirement for the CDF analyses of events with large Total-Et is Total-Et > Total_Et_min where the threshold Total_Et_min is analysis dependent.

1992/3 Event Selection (20 pb^-1)

  • Total_Et_min = 320 GeV or 420 GeV depending on the analysis.
  • Total Energy < 2000 GeV. Rejects beam halo and cosmic-ray interactions. Note that the center-of-mass collision energy is 1800 GeV.
  • Primary vertex within 60 cm of the detector center. Rejects poorly measured events.
  • Missing-Et significance S < 6, where S is defined as the missing-Et divided by the sqrt of the Total-Et. Rejects beam halo and cosmic-ray interactions.
  • No significant energy deposition in the central hadron calorimeters that is measured to be out-of-time with the beam-beam collision time. Rejects beam halo and cosmic-ray interactions.

    1988/9 Event Selection (4 pb^-1)

  • Total_Et_min = 400 GeV.
  • Total Energy < 2000 GeV. Rejects beam halo and cosmic-ray interactions. Note that the center-of-mass collision energy is 1800 GeV.
  • Only one well reconstructed primary vertex. Rejects multiple interactions.
