Introduction

According to SM in ppbar collisions of center-of-momentum of about 2 TeV, ttbars are expected to be produced through gluon gluon fusion (~15%) and quark-antiquark annihilation (~85%). In this study, we make a measurement of the ttbar cross section fraction through gg fusion over qqbar annihilation. As in many analyses, this is a test of the SM prediction.

In addition, due to the fact that bbbar production has the same production mechanism as ttbar with gg fusion being the dominant channel and the higher production rate that we observe for bbbar in hadron colliders, one can hypothesize that our understanding of gg fusion is not accurate and therefore a measurement of this process in ttbar production would be very interesting.

Also, there have been some suggestions that even though the ttbar production cross section measured in Run I is in agreement with the SM prediction, there is the possibility of having ttbar production and top quark decay mechanisms beyond SM that would cancel each others effect such that the result would still be consistent with what has been observed in Run I. Thus there is interest in studying the ttbar production mechanisms independent of the ttbar final state channels.
