CDF notes

These are the CDF notes released in support of this analysis

  • CDF note 6950 "Measurement of the Fraction of Longitudinally Polarized W Bosons Produced in Top-Quark Decays"
We measure the fraction of longitudinally-polarized W bosons produced in top-quark decays by analyzing the charged-lepton pT spectrum of tt candidate events. We find that the fraction of W bosons with longitudinal polarization is F0 = 0.88 +0.12 -0.47 (stat.+syst.), F0 > 0.24 @ 95% CL in the lepton plus jets SECVTX tagged sample, F0 < 0.59 @ 95% CL in the dilepton sample, and F0 = 0.33 +0.35 -0.24 (stat.+syst), F0 < 0.93 @ 95% CL in the combined analysis.
  • CDF note 6949 "Parameter and Confidence Interval Estimation Methods for the Top W Helicity Measurement"
We describe the methods used to measure the fractions of longitudinal and right-handed W bosons produced in tt decays. We also describe the methods used to estimate confidence intervals for these measurements. The application of the maximum-likelihood method of parameter estimation and the Feldman-Cousins method of confidence interval estimation are discussed.
