Ph.D. Thesis submission to University of California, Berkeley, CA by William Carl Wester, III April 28, 1994 Title ----- A Measurement of the Mass of the B_s^0 Meson in Proton-Antiproton Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV Abstract for Thesis ------------------- The large b quark production cross section at the Fermilab Tevatron and the capabilities of the CDF experiment during the 1992-93 pbar-p collider running are exploited to fully reconstruct B mesons and measure their masses. Signals of 139.9 +- 15.0 B^- -> J/Psi K^- candidates, 56.5 +- 9.5 B^0 -> J/Psi K^* candidates, and 32.9 +- 6.8 B_s^0 -> J/Psi Phi candidates are used to measure the masses: M(B^-) = 5279.6 +- 1.7 (stat) +- 2.9 (syst) MeV/c^2 M(B^0) = 5279.9 +- 2.5 (stat) +- 3.7 (syst) MeV/c^2 M(B_s^0) = 5367.7 +- 2.4 (stat) +- 4.8 (syst) MeV/c^2 Posted to /cdf/pub/thesis/cdf4595_wester_thesis.ps http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/thesis/cdf4595_wester_thesis.ps Posted by groer@fnald
