The CMD Database allows you to keep track of Alterations, versions, FCO/ECO (Factory Change Order, Engineering Change Order), etc. for your modules. Below, we use "Alteration" as a generic name which include any of the above.
In this tutorial, we give step-by-step instructions on (1) Defining an Alteration type (2) Entering the alteration for some modules, and (3) Finding out the Alterations that have been performed on modules.
ENTERING THE CMD DATABASE
For practice, use the Test Database. Use the Production DB if you
want to make some real changes. (Links are provided to both DB at the
bottom of this page for your convenience). Click on "Module Maintenance Forms"
You will be prompted for account name and password (use cdf_test and run2
for test DB)--leave the Database box blank. You will get a menu
which will allow you to access any of the 6 forms (that you have access
permission for) and change forms without having to re-type your password.
DEFINING AN ALTERATION TYPE
Skip if the Alteration type has already been defined. In order to mark
a particular module as been altered, the alteration type must first be
defined
Click on the "Alteration" form from the pull-down menu.
You can enter the name of an alteration, and put in a short description.
Click on commit to activate this alteration type. Click on exit.
This alteration type will now show up in the menu when you access this
module type in the "Job" form below.
MARKING SOME MODULES AS HAVING ALTERATIONS MADE
Use the "Job" form
To select a particular module, type in either
The PREP number, and click on "query" button.
or the Module type and the serial number, and click on "guery" button.
The information on this unit will be listed
Next, you must type in anything in the "problem" text field (a . will
suffice)
You can now put the cursor on the technician's name; type in last name,
first name--note that your name must be on the list--click on ? to check
if you have problems.
"Tab" will bring you to the alteration type (or click on the appropriate
box). You can use "?" and select the alteration you want.
Click on "commit" to activate this alteration.
FINDING OUT WHAT ALTERATIONS HAVE BEEN DONE ON MODULES
There are several ways to find out which alteration have been
registered for a unit.
One option is to use the "Asset history" form. Once a unit have
been selected, you can click on "Alteration History" to see which alteration
have been done. However, you can only find out the information on only one
unit.
Other possibilities include using some of the reports --Alteration
history, etc (some will allow you to list info on more than one unit).
