| Offline Oracle DB Usage Monitoring (2nd daily job) |
The purpose of this monitoring task is to ensure that there is no unusual database activity that can waste resources and potentially overload the database machines. Contacts for the database group are:
COORDINATOR: Petar Maksimovic
Lab Extension: 8607
Phone at home institution: (410) 516-3819
Home phone: (410) 666-5499
email: petar@fnal.gov
DEPUTY COORDINATOR: Jonatan Piedra
Lab Extension: 2115
email: piedra@fnal.gov
Please also send email to the CDFDB-SUPPORT mailing list to contact all those involved with supporting the database, cdfdb-support@fnal.gov
Unusual activity includes a large number of connections or a large amount of CPU usage, in particular, either of these things by a single user. The database used by general users is called cdfstrm1. Please monitor cdfstrm1 by checking the following links a few times a day:
- cdfstrm1 CPU Usage Tables: (only need to check twice per day) If you see any user with greater than 6,000 cpu-seconds in any of these tables, please send the following email (replace information where necessary) oracle_db_cpu_usage_table_email.txt
- cdfstrm1 Connections Plot: If a user has more than 1,500 connections for a period of more than 2 hours, notify the user, Petar, Jonatan and cdfdb-support.
- cdfstrm1 Current Usage Table: If a user has a large number (~20) inactive connections lasting more than 100 seconds each, notify the user, Petar and cdfdb-support. Here is a sample email, oracle_db_connection_email.txt
- cdfstrm1 CPU Usage Plot: If you see any user with greater than 500 cpu-seconds for more than 1 hour, please send the following email (replace information where necessary) oracle_db_cpu_usage_plot_email.txt. There is an archive of previous plots below the plot in the above link - please check these each morning.
**NOTE: The user named "cafuser" denotes ALL users on the caf using code before 4.10.4, so don't report usage of "cafuser" unless it is MUCH higher than the above limits
The cdfofprd database is for offline production. General users should not be using this database. Check the following link to see that a general user does not have over 20 connections to this database:
**NOTE: "sam" is not a general user.
