DMACS Graphics Guidelines 10/9/95 (rev. 1/17/97) RLS

Goals

The primary goal is that the operators can quickly read and comprehend the system status with the graphics.

Avoid displays that distract from the primary information.

Navigation

Click on the valve or equipment item itself to dive into detailed information. That information might include PID parameters, control loop face plate, historical plots, or other detail information.

The graphics hierarchy will look like this:

Drawing

Simple, common shapes will be used to depict equipment.

The background will be pastel. A tan background is preferred.

If the drawing is sized for a large screen it is viewed by scrolling on a smaller screen. All of the newer view screens are twenty-one inch.

Pipe lines passing between pages will be matched in color and location.

Piping colors used by Nick Cadena on P&ID's are preferred.

An alarm button at the lower left of each page will display alarms or an alarm display will be present continuously. An alarm button will flash to indicate unacknowledged alarms.

The date and time will be displayed at the top of each page.

Data pages will be used for simply listing the input variables in a local area. This will be helpful for checkouts and for infrequently checked instruments that are not shown elsewhere.
