Monitoring Controls System meeting on April 2, 2002

Attendance:
Andrea Bocci, Steve Hahn, Mark Knapp, Oleg Pukhov, Margherita Vittone, John Yoh, JC Yun

SYSTEM:
Steve said we now have accelerator studies on every other weeks. It supposed to start on Tuesday and ends on Thursday. We recorded the highest peak luminosity of 1.3x10**30.

Pisabox:
There was an incident when there were 12 channels of central calorimeter went off limits but alarms were not issued. Luckly it turned out to be a faulty reading. However it raised an issue of alarm criteria. Steve strongly urges all the subsystems in Pisabox should have some kind of severe alarm criteria.

CLC:
Andrea said that 1 channel of CLC is ramping very slowly and it sets off alarm during ramping HV. We need to replace the CAEN module.
While Steve was thinking about using CLC trigger inhibit signal for Accelerator operation, he figured out that the CLC CAEN power supply was not setup properly for Trigger Inhibit output. There are options, under voltage, over voltage, over current etc. to be set properly.

ICICLE:
A group the tags which were written into the oracle database at the same time have identical time. Some people think this is confusing. Also we might can save disk space by skipping all the time stamps except the first one. Virus scan halted the ICICLE for 8 hours unnoticed on Monday. Magherita promised to install a heartbeat checking sheme for the Icicle as soon as possible.

Vnode:
Shift crews noticed that the automated Virus scan on a local pc made the detector buttons to change from green to gray on the CDFGbAlarms page. They said one group of buttons changed color to gray around 2 AM then another group of buttons changed to gray after a while. These went on until all the systems were cycled. We were told it did not hang any system permanently though. At another time, the TOF hung when virus scan happened during a shot setup. A few of us argued that it would be very convenient if we can adjust scan time according to run situation. However, we were told the lab wide automated virus scan is very hard to customize.

Documentation:
John said Jaco updated CLC documents. JC also pointed out the PSM instructions to shift crews are outdated. Particularly for the masking and unmasking procedures. CCU:
Oleg said they need to work on documentations, Icicle database, and Trigger Inhibit. Oleg is to leave back to Russia during June.
