Monitoring Controls System meeting on February 17, 2004

Attendance:
Steve Hahn, Dan Ryan, Yeongdae Shon, Irina Shreyber, Margherita Vittone, John Yoh, JC Yun

NEWS:
The accelerator is doing very well these days delivering over 5*10**31 consistently. Recently we have longer stores than before. Even if this reduced average instantaneous luminosity, it improved integrated luminosity since it cut down downtime and help accumulate more pbars. The COT ageing problem caused a big setback to CDF data taking. High voltage of the inner two super layers are turned off until further studies are completed. Next a few layers are being operated with 50% of nominal gas gain. Many people are working hard to understand the implications of the problems to CDF triggers and offline tracking efficiencies. The COT group is planning to have an access in a few weeks to pull out some wires to investigate.

  • SYSTEM:
At the PC addministrator meeting we were told that the FNAL domain will be disappear by the end of this year. For the iFix system, the PC's with Windows 2000 are in the Fermi domain. Those running Windows NT are in the FNAL domain. Since we have already a backup FNAL domanin server on the 3dr floor at B0 for the local use, there might be some chance to have our own domain without upgrading to Windows 2000. Since Windows NT is well debugged its more reliable than newer operating systems. More information in Steve's transpanrancy.

    PISABOX:
Irina said that the alarm criteria is now corrected to include such a case when a channel is severely out of limit even if it's only a channel. The old criteria requires at least 5 channels off limit (5V). The recent incident was involving a channel which went off as far as 200V and this did not set off alarm.
A couple of the PISABOX's are malfunctioning since 60HZ power line was surged recently. They need an access to fix this problem.

    TOF:
    See Steve's transparancy.

    ICICLE:
There is some possibility that network transactions prohibits communication between the run control and the Solenoid2 PC where the Icicle is running. We need to understand this problem as soon as possible. Click on 'Steve's transparancy' for more.

    PSM:
Dan said there is a channel causing trouble due to flakey readout. The front panel readout shows the channel is working OK. It got worse and starts setting off alarms recently. This channel is masked off for the moment. We need to fix this channel during an earliest possible access.
