NEWS:
The summer shutdown is set on August 25th for six to eight weeks. However,
there might be some delay and extension of shutdown in case they
need to add items to improve luminosity.
Steve said there was a software demonstration by Siemens. This product can replace iFix. There is a proposal to install this for a test run at SiDet.
Steve encouraged iFix experts to join the Ace meetings on every Tuesday morning if there is anything to inform to aces.
Starting on July 29th, all the web site access from offsite will not be allowed unless those web pages are authorized by the computing division. For example, the iFix MONDOC web site needs to be authorized.
Following Steve's comments on the web authorization are added as an addendum (7/29/03).
Mark pointed out that since the web address is actually:
http://cdf-fs2.fnal.gov:3000/fixpics/
http://cdf-fs2.fnal.gov:3000/plug/javachart/icicle.htm
that in fact the prohibition is only for ports 80 (HTTP) or 443 (HTTPS).
After talking about this with Frank and several other people in CD, the
word I get is that for the moment we are OK.
It might be a good idea to do a Nessus port scan on these sites, and
I have tried to do so (I've even got my X-509 certificate!) but so far
without success. I'll let you know when I make further progess.
SYSTEM:
The online system will be down on the second week of the shutdown. This
might be the best time for iFix work. We plan to replace 5 old pc's. These
include PISABOX, CLC, MUON SCI. Two other systems, PLUG and TOF, are not
confirmed yet.
Steve was called in by an ace for frequent 'Network Transaction in Progress' messages. He figured out that this time it was due to a belated manual system backup work by Mark.
PSM:
During the shutdown, we will install the fan monitors for all the VME power
supplies. This will show us if fans are really spinning or not. A test code
for the XFT crate is ready.
PISABOX:
Irina said she is running an excutable to delete uncessary files
automatically from C: disk to save disk space. Steve said XenonFlasher.grf
does not work locally for unknown reasons. However it works fine at Vnode1.
Most likely, the subdirectory definitions got confused.
ICICLE:
Margherita said she is working on monitoring Motors. She needs some down
time. She is ready for the integration of the PLUG HV.
