Bill Noe described his iFIX upgrade plan at the meeting. He said there
are 3 versions (2.5, 2.6, 3.0) avaiable at the moment. D0 is running
with the version 2.5. The version 2.6 has two features which do not exist
in version 2.5. These are programmable keys and iHistorian. The programmable
keys are useful because we can authenticate and upgrade by downloading.
The iHistorian supposed to replace iFix Webserver. This will allow us to see
trend plots over several weeks.
The version 3.0 was released only a few weeks ago and we do not know much about it. We have to make decision on the choices of the versions after we learn more about the version 3.0. The lab policy according to Rich Schmitt is to have one version for D0, CDF and Soudan mine.
Bill thinks we need to stick with Windows NT. Eventually we need to move out of NT since new software products are not supporting NT system, including Kerberos. The main reasons stopping us from upgrading windows systems are specifically that TI and APAX systems are not compatible with Windows 2000 or XP.
To reduce the time required to switch to a newer version, first Jim Loskot will to convert all the pictures etc. and run them offline at his local pc. Then he will try them out online. When this goes fine we will wait for a shutdown which is at least as long as 4 weeks.
Bob Clark's comments on the EDA Toolkit after the meeting:

Basically, any new or existing re-compiles of the EDA Toolkit will require and upgrade. Call our office to order an upgrade if required. One of our experimenters had this question. Please help me out here.
