Monitoring Controls System meeting meeting on July 27, 2004

Attendance:
Steve Hahn, Dan Ryan, JC Yun

NEWS:
The Accelerator is doing pretty good these days. They promised us to have average initial luminosity of 10E32 after the shutdown, which starts on August 23 for 15 weeks.

SYSTEM:
We ordered 2 PC's to upgrade servers. These are equipted with a special multidisk system for easy recovery from disk failures. Two machines cost about $8000.

  • Steve's transparancy.
  • VNODE:
The HBM button turned red few times during the last week at the Vnode1. HBM stands for Heart Beat Monitoring. When the heartbeat checking program , which is running in background mode, is updating tags slower than 5 minutes it turns red. During the normal operation it supposed to update every 1.5 minutes. Aces are informed to page an expert for the case when the HBM botton are red for ten minutes or longer. A power cycling of the VNODE1 solves the problem most of the time.

    ICICLE:
Magherita modified her code to write time stamp every 1 minute at the VNODE1. The known heartbeat problem should be fixed. During the recent study of J/Psi mass shift of 1MeV, we learned that most of the Solenoid tags stored in the Oracle database are obsolete. An updated list of tags are sent to Margherita for installation.

    PISABOX:
Steve got instructions from Randy on how to make the Xenon Flasher excutables.

    VOLTMAN:
Dan is leaving on August 2nd for his graduation preparation. Matt Hare is going to take over his Voltman work. He said he is coming back for Voltman upgrade work on September 18.
