Monitoring Controls System meeting on March 30, 2004

Attendance:
Steve Hahn, Dan Ryan, Yeongdae Shon, Irina Shreyber, JC Yun

NEWS:
Starting up from the 2 week shutdown. There were some DAQ problems and other minor problems. MCS problems during the shutdown were summarized in Steve's transparancies.

  • Steve's transparancy.

  • According to the new schedule we will have a summer shutdown during October for a month. This shutdown is driven by accelerator works. We will be upgrading MCS pc's with NT during this period. These computers will be replaced with new computers with Windows 2000.

    MUON3:
Muon3 froze up during the Sunday evening during the automated backup run. Somehow Yeongdae's personal data was not updated at the control room the shift crews could not reach him. He said his current personal data are kept in CDF database.

    NETWORK:
Recently we saw many network error messages in MCS network. However, we can not pin point the computers involved. We are considering purchase of a smart router which can provide us diagnostic information for these errors. The router costs between $2500 and $5000.

    CHA:
When Irina noticed that the WHA was frozen oneday, to her surprise, the Xenon was in run mode. We need to inform aces to get out of run mode after Xenon runs. Nicolai and Irina (June) will be leaving due to their visa problems. We hope we will have someone to take them over in time.

    VNODE1:
The pin wheel stopped about 20% (~ 3 seconds per every fifteen seconds) of the time a few weeks ago. We had to reboot the node several times during the week. The culprit turned out to be the timer which activate sound alarms for the I&I display. JC replaced the timer with an event based scheduler item using a signal generation register in SIM driver which is called RH.
