Monitoring Controls System meeting on November 26, 2002

Attendance:
Steve Hahn, Yeongdae Shon, Margherita Vittone, Marcin Wolter, John Yoh, JC Yun

NEWS:
The shutdown plan from Jan 13. to Feb. 5 is still alive. The most high priority work is ISL cooling repair. We will try to upgrade iFix software during this time. Please report any problems you encounter while testing the new version (3.0).

SYSTEM:
If anyone tested out the Visual Basice EDA tool kit in the V3.0 environment, please let Marcin know. Margherita said she might have time to install Run and Event number in iFIX in January sometime.

PSM:
PSM trigger inhibit is quite slow. It takes 2 minutes to readout all the channels before sending trigger inhibit signals. The slowness is due to the fact that we have noisy signal cables. A few options to improve the situation were discussed during the meeting.

1) Split up 8 daisy chains with more pc's.

2) Use RS485 repeater cards.

3) Use APACS system... Bob Sanders has experience.

4) Loosen up error checking scheme.

5) Modify hardware to extract direct alarm signals.

6) Use better signal cable.

Marcin promised to study the option 4).

DOCUMENTATION:
John said the end of the quarter is approaching - this means it's time to update iFIX documentations.

MUON:
Yeongdae said the shift crews can disable individual channels instead of disabling a whole sector. Until now, shift crews had to disable a whole sector to enable trigger inhibit. He will enter the instructions into the HVMON documentation.
