Monitoring Controls System meeting on September, 2003

Attendance:
Steve Hahn, Andy Hocker, Dan Ryan, Irina Shreyber, Margherita Vittone, John Yoh, JC Yun

NEWS:
The summer shutdown starts next Mondy, September 8 for 10 to 12 weeks. It starts with brief power outage at 7 AM. The major efforts for the MCS group is to replace 7 old PC's. Steve showed transparancies on the iFix shutdown plan.

PISABOX:
Irina said she now has a pc but somehow the Visual Studio was omitted during the initial software installation.

ICICLE:
Margherita said the Gamma supplies were included in the Icicle since a few weeks ago. During the shutdown, she will be working on the PSM and the Muon Scintillators.

PSM:
Dan said he wanted to remind people that we could improve the problem of a stuck bit at the muon chain. He calls for ideas for this. Steve said we could split up the East and the West.

SVXIICON:
Andy said he needs a new video card for the monitor. Some of the upper part of the screen is all jumbled. Also he concerned about the only spare of Simens PLC not working.

CLC:
Mary Convery is replacing Andrea Bocci for the CLC. The CLC trigger inhibits were fired during HV ramping and it irritates operators. Since the CLC softwares were inherited from the PLUG softwares, most likely we can fix it by adding a time out statement into the codes as we did for the PLUG.

VNODE:
JC is planning to install a new version of the heartbeat checking scheduler, HB_scheduler_vnode.evs, during the shutdown. The new scheduler will have only one timer by combining 13 timers. This will prevent any individual timer failures from being unnoticed. He also hopes the new version is more efficient than the old one.
