Thoughts on Muon Board Commissioning
The following are some thoughts on a plan once the board is at B0, as
proposed by PJW. This plan dovetails nicely into the end of Fred's
testing schedule and has a somewhat longer-term and broader view,
as it tries to address things like TrigMon and L2 algorithms.
- Establish correct receipt of data from Muon Match box

This should be done by reading out all data over VME
during regular data taking. There could be a diagnostic
bank created with the same structure as TCMD to allow easy
bit-for-bit comparison with TCMD in TRIGMON.

If there is any question about Magic-Bus interference,
this could be started with the board in crate other than
L2 Decision (L2 Control, Diagnostic Crate). This could
also have advantage of permitting Fred to do diagnostics
on the board during data taking without interfering with
operation of L2 Decision crate.

When summary data is available, this data can also be
readout over VME and added to the bank or a new bank
created. Even if this is ready when the board arrives at
B0, doing the bit-for-bit should be done first.

This diagnostic bank could be retained and readout on our
TRIGMON events

Someone could be working on the TRIGMON routine for this
NOW if we can find that person.

Once data integrity is established at input to Muon board,
start testing transmission over MBus to Alpha

Need to move into the L2 decision crate

Keep reading out the diagnostic bank and now do a
bit-for-bit comparision of the summary words between the
ones read out from alpha and ones from Muon Interface.
This could just be added to TRIGMON module written for 1.

If there are problems with interence with other interface
boards, might want to start by having Muon board and Alpha
alone in lower crate. Have that alpha just readout the
muon board and generate a bank. This would require some
work because what you would want is for Lower crate to be
used just to readout the muon board but not make decision.
I guess this means diferent Alpha code.

After this is done one is in principal ready to test trigger
algorithms.

In parallel with the hardware commissioning the methods
for how to use the muon data need to be developed. This
is not a trivial task. It has impact on whether or not
PIO is actually used.

Are there questions that should be worked on people
outside L2 group now? For example, how will IMU data
actually be used?
