Infrastructure Cabling

The information is all contained in an Excel spreadsheet

The cable labels have 5 fields in the database.

# char field
6 ID number
3 system
2 unit
1 EW, i.e. east-west
12 function

For the infrastructure cables we treat unit and EW as a 2 character subsystem field. The function code usually indicates the source and destination of each cable. For infrastructure cables, there is usually one such cable per crate, so there is no need to indicate the slot number at the destination front-end crate. However, for the source location, slots and connectors are indicated. The database lists the cable type and connector types on each end as well as the location of each end of the cable. We have filled the location fields with the crate locations only for purposes of tracing cables since the slot info is encoded on the function code.

Note that if counting channels sequentially, the channel numbers for the trigger cross-point (via taxi fiber), return cross-point and reset fanout are identical. Because we have not yet purchased the terminal server to connect to the crate CPU serial ports, the terminal cables have been given local numbers rather than slot assignments to aid future cabling:

The master sheet in the Excel file also lists the TSI cross-point module number and the associated VRB for the front-end crates.  The VRB and FIB crates are also given fake TSI numbers in order to integrate them into the general scheme for the fiber patch panel.

Each patch panel is 24 connectors wide with 6 allocated for each fiber bundle coming from a front end crate (2 read-out taxi, 2 Ethernet, 1 TSI taxi, 1 spare). For the counting-room crates, the ethernet slots are not used and we have purchase 4-fiber bundles.

Note on Rack Names:
First and second floors are as in run 1, e.g. 1RR18D is first floor, row 18, rack D. For the collision hall, there is a 2-letter rack type and a 3-letter corner (e.g. NWB is north-west bottom). The locations are:
