CEM Source Issues / FNAL / hahn@fnal.gov
The legacy archive VAX computer is b0cc06 on the b0 cluster. The programs in this section will have to be completely rewritten, minimally as Java interfaces to C routines in VRCs.
SRC package on legacy VAX used FASTBUS calls to latch to control inhibits and single-word transfers via MXs to RABBIT crates. Integration with other packages would break new ground.
SRC package on legacy VAX used data from shared buffer in online DAQ computer using low-level calls (bypassing YBOS) to make readout sufficiently fast. Presumably, this should be easier with Java and TRYBOS. One useful addition, make printing easy.
B0SCCE using Jorway interface to CAMAC crates, on legacy VAX now?
CEN_TASK and CEN_MANAGER packages on legacy VAX.It has been suggested this may be a perfect case of using legacy Fortran code, since this code is certainly not execution time-critical. However, the details of how to do this are the devil: how to we hook TRYBOS and ORACLE into existing code? Is this really easier than a complete rewrite?
Ultimately, the real gains comes from physics (E/p of Ws, Zs, and inclusive electrons), but we should attempt to make these "tweaks" as small and infrequent as possible by doing the above. We may find disagreement between physics and sources has become larger (this seemed to be the trend at the end of Run 1).
