Questions from the PAC to CDF April 12, 2002 0. We and the Technical Review committee were surprised that the suggestion to use the silicon edges for alignment was rejected. Please elaborate on your reasons. Explain your alignment requirements and discuss the impact on triggering and tracking, as well as manpower needs and throughput during construction. 1. Do you plan to present more detail of bottom line physics implications for the upgrades? The committee is concerned that the basis for considering Stage 1 approval at Aspen may not be in place without such assessments. 2. What is your quantitative assessment of the limitations in the discovery potential due to the cosmic overlaps in the ecal. 3. The non silicon upgrades must be subjected to rigorous assessment of potential benefits versus costs and risks. Do you plan to present most detailed information at Aspen as we move towards Stage 1 approval. This applies especially to the ecal timing upgrade. 4. What specific mods are contemplated to improve the speed of the L2 decision. To what extent is sufficient info available to even make more sophisticated L2 decisions? 5. We want to understand the role of the tracking trigger. provide a qualitative explanation of why the 3D tracking trigger contributes significantly to high pt physics, (for Aspen we would like a quantitative assessment of impact on Higgs sensitivity).
