New User Account Setup Follow-Up

After waiting a few days for new account processing, you should check up on the following prerequisites for CDF physics analyses:

  1. ILP account (for fcdflnx*)
  2. CDF VOMS membership for FermiGrid.
  3. dCache authorization for CDF Enstore and scratch pools
  4. SAM database user profile for CDF file access on FermiGrid and the ILP machines.
The creation of your CDF account includes access authorization to the CDF internal web area. If you cannot login, submit a service desk ticket requesting access to the CDF internal web area of www-cdf.fnal.gov. When you are able to access the CDF internal web areas, please read the following on CDF Run II Legacy computing: The CDF Fast Navigator is the portal to CDF physics and analyses.

Typically, the account setup process works. You can verify if everything you need to do a CDF analysis is operational by submitting the FermiGrid example jobs found in item 3 of the FermiGrid overview.

If something does not work, create a Service Desk Ticket. First, log into the Service Desk using your Fermilab services account, then select 'Scientific Computing Services' on the left bar. What to select next on the right side panel depends on the issue.

  1. ILP account issues
    • Go to 'Scientific Server Infrastructure' entry
    • Select 'Scientific Server Management'
    • Top right box (Get Help): Select 'Report a service outage or incident'
    • Description boxes: Specify the problem, eg, 'Cannot access my CDF ILP account'
  2. CDF VOMs registration
    • Go to 'Distributed Computing' entry
    • Select 'Batch Job Management (jobsub condorsubmit)'
    • Top right box (Get Help): Select 'Submit a request to service provider'
    • Description boxes: 'Please add me to CDF VOMs'
  3. dCache authorizations
    • Go to 'Scientific Data Storage and Access' entry
    • Select 'dCache Disk Cache Storage'
    • Top right box (Get Help): Select 'Submit a request to service providers'
    • Description boxes: Please add my CILogin DN to CDF dCache access
  4. SAM database user profile
    • Go to 'Scientific Data Management' entry
    • Select 'SAM (Sequential Access via Metadata)'
    • Top right box (Get Help): Select 'Submit a request to service providers'
    • Description boxes: Please create a CDF SAM user profile for me in the CDF SAM database, and add me to the test and cdf groups.
