We present the results of an updated search for the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson production in the &tau&tau decay mode, using 6.0 fb-1 of integrated luminosity of CDF Run II data, collected at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider at &radic 1.96 TeV.
The search is performed considering the following signal processes: WH(&rarr &tau&tau), ZH(&rarr &tau&tau), qHq'&rarr q &tau&tau q'(vector boson fusion) and gg&rarr H&rarr &tau&tau (gluon fusion).
We select the events by requiring that at least one of the two taus decays leptonically, while the other one is reconstructed by its hadronic decay products. The sensitivity of the search is enhanced by employing a multivariate discriminant based on a set of Boosted Decision Trees, separately optimized for events containing 1 jet and &ge 2 jets in the final state. We observe no evidence for a Higgs boson signal and therefore we set a 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the cross section times the branching ratio (B.R.) of the Higgs boson decaying to &tau pairs. Observed and expected limits, relative to SM predictions, are evaluated for Higgs boson masses varying from 100 GeV/c2 to 150 GeV/c2.
