The production cross section for top quark pairs has been measured in CDF in Run 2 in a variety of ways, including using kinematic information. But do the data allow for the existence of new, heavy quarks as well?

Using the observed distribution of total transverse energy (HT) we search for a new, heavy, up-type quark denoted t' decaying to Wq.

Such t' quarks can arise in a variety of models, including N=2 SUSY models and the Beautiful Mirrors model of Wagner et al. See the note for a full synopsis of various t' scenarios.

The CDF Run 2 search finds no evidence of t' pair production, and sets upper limits on the cross section.
